Rachel Isadora (born 1953) is an American illustrator, children's book author, specializing in picture books, and painter. She is most famous for the book Ben's Trumpet, runner-up for the 1980 Caldecott Medal, or Caldecott Honor Book, and winner of the Boston Globe-Horn Book honor. Ben's Trumpet was adapted to video and also translated into a ballet by the Boston ballet company BalletRox in 2009.

Publication, Distribution, et. New York, . Personal Name: Isadora, Rachel, ill. Rubrics: Bears Fiction Friendship.

In Isadora's vibrant, boldly simplified depiction, the child is black and probably a boy; the bear is almost as large as his friend in scenes where he is shown as an active participant (& fast on silver ice/Tracing perfect circles twice'' or & on the violin''), but just right to tuck under an arm at bedtime. The clarity of the illustrative style and colors, and the warm interaction, connoting the child's happy enthusiasm for a variety of activities, make this an especially attractive choice for the youngest audiences  . My son is graduating from college and he called me the other day thinking of my his Grandmother, my Mother that passed away 7 years ago and how she will not be able to see him walk across the stage. He said he thought about " Golden Bear," the book we use to read to him and he wish that he had it to calm him down.

I was excited to find this book for him and its in great condition and I will give it to him on graduation day!

Golden Bear saves the day!

My two-year old adores this book so much it is well-worth owning a copy. We read it frequently before bedtime and she has nearly the entire text memorized--including unusual words for a 2-year old, like "perfect" and "violin". The rhyming text is a joy, and the simple drawings of a child engaged in various activities, most of which will be familiar to any child, are engaging.

I also appreciate the fact that it depicts a child of color, as there are still too few picture books that do.

Too bad it is not readily available in hardcover format--because it really is a classic in quality.

What I received was in good shape but I expected a hardbound 8x11 book - must have misread the description.

My 18 yr old son was surprised to receive this book as a Christmas gift. When he was small we read it every night. Over time the book became worn and ripped, so I surprised him. We read it again on Christmas Eve, almost by heart, and laughed. It was pretty awesome.
