Great stories for young readers to older ones. The stories are really fascinating.
I recommend this book.

I would have given two stars for the first half of the book and four or five for the second half. The sub-title is "A Book for Boys and Girls," but the works in the first half of the book seemed to be above the heads of the average child. Some of the stories and poem were downright tedious. An early nineteenth century boy or girl might comprehend them and even enjoy them, but I don't think today's children would respond positively to them. The first half does contain the biblical story of Christ's birth and the visit of the magi, and there are some poems of literary merit, but only those who are interested in legends told from an early nineteenth century perspective would enjoy all the stories in the first half. I'm glad I didn't stop reading, though, because the second half of the book was thoroughly enjoyable, especially the last six stories, which were quite touching. Today's older children (upper elementary) might even find them interesting. The Kindle version I read is a free public domain version, so you can't go wrong if you want to skip the more tedious stories to get to the gems.
