Altman's study comes full circle at the end of the book as she likens early AIDS hysteria to the reactions caused by the syphilis epidemic in the 1600s.
Human Rights Instruments. There are a number of substantive issues in regarding health financing, including taxation and international funding for health; pooling mechanisms, including social health insurance; and allocative concerns, such as allocation of health funds and resources among primary, secondary, and tertiary health care and the resource divide between rural, remote and urban areas. Driven by the urgency of the right to life and powered by the Millennium Development Goal to halt and begin to reverse the AIDS epidemic, the global response to HIV succeeded in reducing the number of new HIV infections by 35% since 2000.

Issues in Focus Today. While a horrible topic, it is a good book to learn some of the tragic events that have occurred in the world. And, it provides further reading material sources to further educate yourself on the topic.
Human Rights in the New Millennium Human rights issues are taking on new focus in the new millennium. Human rights have been an issue in the international community since the beginning of time. Human rights have and will continue to be a serious issue and concern of the international community. Poverty, rights of women and children, and corporate and military involvement are only some of the issues that human rights involve. The ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) deals with the human rights issues regarding civil and political violations.
