If you enjoyable basketball, this book offers great insight into the history of the game. If you enjoy Bill Simmons, this book offers tons of his takes. If you don't enjoy either, it won't change your opinion. Last year I purchased Bill Simmons' The Book of Basketball for my birthday. Wow I didn't know what I was getting into. The book was released in 2009.

Competitive sports typically require strategic planning and other more complex cognitive abilities however, they don’t perform as well under the pressures of competition until they are closer to twelve (Ray). All sports are either competitive or non-competitive depending on how you play/practice them  . I don't think such a thing exists. Team sports- baseball, for example- all require competition. Individual sports- golf, for example- are competitive, just usually in a different way. The reason is, in baseball, the pitcher is actively trying to strike you out. You are actively trying to get on base/score runs.
