The Specialized Methodology developed for work with socially unskilled persons in groups is derived from two major sources: the Broad Range Model of Practice in the social work group, and the Mainstream Model of social work with groups. The two are described in this and the following chapter. The Broad Range Model of practice in the social work group was generated by the author (1972) as a response to the articulation of several models of practice in the model–building period of theory development of the 1960s.
