Я. said: This book was given to me while I was very sick. We are not the "fixer" We are called to "face" our true self, our own intuitive path. It's okay to make mistakes, this is your journey, don't compare it to someone else's journey.

Some of the conversations in the collection were with people grieving the loss of loved ones, some with people working closely with the dying, and some with people nearing the end of their own lives. Most of the conversations took place over the phone – he calls it the dying phone. For years, Stephen Levine and his wife Ondrea directed the Hanuman Foundation Dying Project, at the invitation of Ram Dass. Ondrea and he have spent years counseling people through their grief, and Meetings At The Edge allows us a glimpse into their process.

Based on his extensive counseling work with the terminally ill, Levine's book integrates death into the context of life with compassion, skill, and hope. The dialogues are presented as if they were transcripts of phone calls or bed-side conversations. However shattering their grief, Levine's interlocutors air their feelings and then gradually work them out with articulate ease (they're almost all literate in psychology, and some have read Levine's books), while the master himself pours out his soothing message: ""It is very understandable that there is pain at times as the body falls away. But you aren't that body. The body is sick, but the nature of being is not sick,"" etc. For the predisposed.

'Let this book tear your heart open. But see beyond the individual suffering to the holding that creates our pain. This is a book of shared learning, of letting go, of entering into the edgelessness of being that lies just beyond the edge of our old concepts and shopworn ideas, of our deeply imprinted fears and self-doubt.' 'These are stories of those who have been brought to their edge. Each has taken a step into unexplored territory, and entered the no man's land of uninvestigated life. These are our meetings at the edge, at the point from which all growth originates - these are stories of the first faltering beyond our fears, beyond our image of who we are, into the direct experience of life.' From the author's introduction. 'Stephen's work with the grieving and the dying is amongst the most skilful and compassionate that I am aware of.' A lot of repetition surrounding kernels of wisdom. I read this while deep in grief and while it gave me some reasons to hope for the future, its main benefit was putting me to sleep at night because the book was rather challenging to get through. I added it to my growing library of books on grief, and while it wasn't the most helpful book I acquired, I found bits and pieces of information within it that made it an acceptable purchase.

We are living in a mean spirited age of hardcore Materialism and Reductionism. The Dogma that is constantly trumped into our minds Death is the End and there is nothing after has had a terrible impact on society.
Thank God for Stephen Levine, reading this book will help us embrace our Divine and Eternal Nature of Love. We need not fear Death. Death is not the end. Death is just moving from one plane of existence to another. While we are here we should be kind to one another and appreciate each moment we have together. Thank you Stephen Levine for your bright shining light of love and peace.

I chose this because both of these books, Meetings and Who dies, are important to me at this point in my life....they are clear and speaking a truth regarding dying. I work at hospice hospital and need all the help I can get - as I think that dying is one of those most important of all moments in our lives and we could use some much needed insight into letting go and just being...emptying those parts of us which are holding us back from wholeness....
