I love Mercedes
Context: The use of this book is paralleling a graduate level course for linear algebra having taken an undergraduate course in the same (8 years ago).

Quick tips if you're debating this book:
- This is not a good book for a first course in linear algebra. You should be strong in matrix operations and understand functions such as traces, determinants, inverses, etc. The first chapter isn't going to walk you through it.
- If this is for a course and you're contemplating an international edition, note the questions at the end of each section are mixed up. This could mess you up with homework from the book.

There are 5 star reviews out there that provide a good picture of what you can get out of the book. While I agree with those, as mentioned earlier, this is not a first course in linear algebra. Even having taken a course years ago I keep my initial course book with me to help through this book. There is an extensive use of formula instruction and variable based proofs, but when getting to quantitative examples it is rather fast paced jumping over steps.
Publishing material of the book is solid, with a heavy cover and pages. Text is easily legible and thus far I haven't noticed typos enough to distract me.
This is a well-written text. I also have a first edition, which was excellent, yet Strang has improved the clarity with every edition. If you solve every example, you will be well-prepared for anything that your math department throws at you.
What a powerful, clear introduction to Linear Algebra! Since the field was completed long before this book was published (although important generalizations have been made, they are far above the level of this course), it is as good as the current edition for reference, at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Examples are insightful and numerous - exposition is even better. Strang reminds the student where Linear Algebra fits in the big picture and does so with the brilliance of Feynman.

The only exception is for computer scientists, who will find that the examples are quite dated. However, a bright programmer will be able to adapt the programming examples pretty easily, since Strang has such excellent exposition.

Buy the book your instructor assigns for the class, sell it back and buy this for your library.
Gilbert Strang's Linear Algebra and Its Applications gives both an intuitive feel to linear algebra and the geometry that accompanies most linear algebra ideas in two or three dimensions, which can then be generalized to n dimensions. Strang provides a multitude of examples of each idea and a great set of exercises for the reader to try. Each subsection of each chapter is a stand-alone lesson that can help just about any linear algebra student. I really enjoyed this textbook.
A classic, and it's easy to see why. One of the few math books that one can learn from simply by reading the book carefully, without an instructor.

The objective is understanding, not rigor. If you prefer theorem, lemma, and proof, this is not the book for you.
For a book that mentions applications right in the title, there's not much mention in the contents.
Good textbook but a bit above my student's level- two year college setting. Needs more explanation and background. Most background seems to be understood. Did not like the flow of information.
Strang. What's not to love. Clear, accessible, comprehensive. Amazing.
