Is it really possible to talk with animals? Or at least to realize that they are talking to us all the time? Patty Summers listens and understands.

An "animal communicator," Summers can converse directly with a variety of animal species, from cats and dogs to rabbits, horses, and iguanas. In this beautiful and moving book, the animals share their wisdom, their perspective on life, and even how they feel about human beings. The animals can teach us many things, and Summers uses her abilities to help humans listen and to aid humans and animals in understanding one another better.

She also describes the ways that animals comprehend the world, and explains that they always understand the intent of human communications, if not the words. And she teaches that they share our wants and needs, as they desire the same things that humans do: love, compassion, kindness, and respect; and they do not want to be thought of as pets or as beings to be exploited.

Summers shares numerous encounters with animals, and each story has a valuable lesson - each is a gift of spirit from the animals. We have so much to learn from our animal companions, domestic and otherwise. Talking with the Animals provides a rare glimpse inside the minds of the creatures with whom we share our planet.

A collection of her experiences and things she's learned from her communication with animals. It seemed a bit repetitive, stories were usually very similar in their "morals." Simple and cute to read.

My husband remarked that it seemed a bit strange that all the animals were so wise and spoke in such human-like form, and in similar frames. As if the author was doing a significant amount of anthropomorphising. I can't disagree.

Each story had a section that was a quote from each animal that seemed to have a very similar style and type of communication. The author did say that animals make an effort to communicate in our human language for our benefit, so maybe that's an explanation, but for us, the style lent itself to a simplistic, anthropomorphism feeling that made the book more of a coffee-table, anecdotal type read. I realize that animal communication is part interpretation, so that could also be why this book feels so mono-tonal.

It's not just that we didn't appreciate the author's style, but unfortunately it took us both from believing in animal communication, to a bit skeptical. We much preferred "The Language of Miracles" by Amelia Kinkade which was highly informative, educational, and engaging, while giving a great deal of personal experience, without so much reliance on the whimsical, as found in this one.

While other books focus on technique (see anything by Marta Williams or Amelia Kincade), this one opens a wonderful world of possibility. If I have one quibble, it is that the messages from the animals at the end of each chapter sound alike...and an awful bit like AL Gore..but overall this is a heartwarming delight.

Inspiring, practical book. I felt Ms. Summers was sitting down with me and speaking to me as one would talk to a friend. She is able to make her skills in talking with animals available and doable for people like me. I had a hard time putting this book down when I finished so I am rereading it!

This is one of those "can't put it down" books. I have been aware most of my life that "animals" are far more understanding about life, death, and relationships than are people. Having adored animals all my life, I found this book very comforting in light of the fact my kitty Thomas recently died after being with me for 15 years. I KNOW animals have a keen sense of ESP and enlightenment. This book reinforces that and gives me a deep feeling of hope and gratitude. I am ordering 3 more to be sent to my very special friends... who are (naturally).. as involved with animals as I have always been!!

Exceptional read - beautifully written. I read through it at a quicker pace than most because I wanted to find out what happened next in every chapter. Very enjoyable and valuable. I'd recommend it to anyone who just loves animals and wants to learn more about them, as well as animal communication.
