Shades of Green: Myth and Muddle in the Countryside, Grafton (London, England), 1990. Two Georges: The Making of the Modern Monarchy, Hodder and Stoughton (London, England), 1988. The Pound: A Biography, Century (London, England), 2000. British journalist and writer David Sinclair has written a number of biographical and historical books dealing with topics ranging from the British monarchy to the pound currency and to the 1919 Treaty of Versailles. His 1977 title, Edgar Allen Poe, is a "humanely intelligent assessment," according to Simon Blow, writing in the Spectator. David Smith remarked in the Sunday Times that "almost half of Sinclair's book covers the period before Henry VII 's minting of the first pound coin. Sinclair covers aspects of the pound from its etymological roots to its relative value through the more than twelve centuries it has endured.

In 1990, his book Shades of Green: myth and muddle in the countryside provoked controversy by showing the decline of rural Britain. There was also a biography of the pound, which became a best-seller, and a reassessment of the Versailles treaty, Hall of Mirrors. In 2003 he told the story of a notorious 19th century fraud perpetrated by Sir Gregor MacGregor. David's own life story merited a book too. Born in Hexham, Northumberland, he was given up for adoption by his teenaged mother. He is survived by his wife, Amber, and their children. David Sinclair, journalist, born 24 August 1945; died 11 November 2011.
