The Syndic operated as a sort of gigantic protective league in what had once been the states east of the Mississippi. Humanity had never had it so good; there was plenty of money, and people were expected to have fun with it. Moral inhibitions had gone the way of the horse: most girls were delightfully amenable, and polo was played in jeeps with 50-caliber machine guns. This is a work of fiction. All the characters and events portrayed in this book are fictional, and any resemblance to real people or incidents is purely coincidental.

I'm a lifelong sci-fi fan. I first read Poul Anderson's Flight to Forever as a teenager back in the 1950s. The story absolutely captivated me. His visions of the future of Earth and the universe and the beings that will populate it are insightful to say the least. The concept of having to travel to the end of time to get back to where you started is brilliant. This is the standard by which I judge all other time travel stories. In short, I consider the best time travel story ever.

This book is a reversible style that has you flip it and begin reading from the back cover to begin the second story. This idea has been done with numerous magazines in the past but I've not seen it with books before. This was a clever way to set the book apart since both sides have respective cover art for each story. The stories themselves are adventurous and highly entertaining. Both are also short enough to read in approximately an hour or so per story. While the stories are not exactly lighthearted they are quite engrossing and the author knows how to spin a good yarn.
