A book in the Marvel Novel continuity, this story involves a journey of Dr. Curt Connors into Mexico to finally put to rest the his horrendous split identity as The Lizard, and the story of how Peter Parker, the intrepid Spider-Man, had to go chase after him.

It all begins with some art thefts. When Spider-man starts to investigate, he finds that the thieves may not be your garden variety burglar; in fact they don't even seem human. But, when The Lizard shows up at one of the thefts, Spider-man realizes that there must be more to these thefts than getting the high prices from rare artifacts. After all, The Lizard's motives have usually been of a 'take over humanity' sort.

It isn't until Connor's wife comes to Peter with a journal that he gets the clue he needs to find out just why The Lizard is in cahoots with thieves and what he might be planning. Following the trail of the journal, Pete sets off to stop The Lizard and save Dr. Connors from himself.

Quite the bitter sweet adventure, this book will leave you on your toes wondering how our hero can best an army of beasts. I recommend reading it if you like Dr. Connors.

This novel was one of the best spider-man novels I read this year. Dr. Conners' journal entries were interesting and quite detailed. The cultural aspects were great. The story of greed and corruption totally blew me away. The lizard acted even more savage in this novel than in previous ones. This is a story of true loyalty and allegiance. It took place mostly in various regions of Mexico but the involvement in New York still existed. Peter Parker showed a compassionate side toward his friend. This story will truly change your thoughts on the Lizard showing you how cruel it can be. All the pain and suffering Curt Conners must go through is unbelievable. This is a must read for all marvel comics/spider-man fans. I was a little skeptical at first but trust me, ya gotta read this. So check it out.

The Spider-Man novel series started to decline in story quality and it started with this novel. The Lizard tries nothing new in the story except try to destroy his human alter-ego Dr. Curt Connors (been there, done that), take over the world with a band of intelligent lizards (been done on the animated series already) and peter parker must find him and stop him before it's too late. The action is too rushed, the plot is never developed to the extent that it becomes interesting, and the end is very anti-climactic. I can't reccomand this book.

Mr. Vornholt must be new to the Spider-Man story as this novel is poorly written and certain characters act out of character. Then again, the Lizard is the one Spider-Man villian that you can not do a lot of stories on, so it wasn;t all the fault of the author.
