Adorna, Lady Bucknell, admired a man who thought honestly and spoke without artifice, but Garrick Stanley Breckinridge Throckmorton the Third gave new meaning to the term tactless. Milford, he said, it has come to my attention that your daughter is moping. Milford, the head gardener of Blythe Hall and a dignified East Anglian yeoman of at least fifty years, turned his hat in his work-roughened hands as he watched his employer.

In My Wildest Dreams book. The other books in the series are re-reads for me, except for this book. I was reading this book when my father passed away, and it has taken several years for me to be able to pick it up and try to enjoy it, give my mental association with the novel.

In My Wildest Dreams. Dreams of Ellery, she told herself, delayed only by a hapless event. Spinning out of Mr. Throckmorton’s arms, she walked toward the door. He caught her before she had taken two steps. His arm circled her waist and he used her momentum to swing her back into his embrace-closer this time than last; he pressed her chest to his. Outraged, embarrassed and uneasily aware of danger, she leaned back as far as she could.

From Publishers Weekly: With this delicious, witty confection, Dodd adds another early Victorian episode to her Governess Brides series and forsakes the angst that gave her earlier Governess titles (Rules of Attraction, etc.) a bitter flavor. Widower Garrick Throckmorton is a careful man with a clear plan for the upcoming week: get his handsome, irresponsible brother, Ellery, engaged to a wealthy heiress; establish the highly accomplished new governess, Celeste, in his nursery; and uncover the mole in his spy network who is leaking English secrets to the Russians. Celeste, the most benign-seeming item on Garrick's agenda, proves to be the sharpest thorn in his side when Ellery falls for the laughing beauty. To safeguard Ellery's impending nuptials, Garrick selflessly decides to seduce Celeste, but he ends up spinning a sensuous web in which he snares himself. Spunky and self-assured, Celeste fleshes out to be a genuine romantic heroine, and Garrick's self-discovery nicely parallels her own realization that she's falling for the supposedly less handsome and more stodgy brother. Supporting characters such as Garrick's mother, an ex-spymaster herself, Celeste's dour father and Ellery's determined fianc'e add spicy humor to this delectable mix. (Oct.)Forecast: Reminiscent of the classic movie Sabrina, this heartwarming Victorian-era treatment will please Dodd's many fans. A three-city author tour and positive word-of-mouth will help this satisfying story sell its 550,000 first printing. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

I actually thought this was a pretty good book. The whole storyline brought to mind the old movie "Sabrina" with Audrey Hepburn, William Holden and Humphery Bogart. Essentially it is the same story wrapped in a romance novel formula. The younger brother and his fine are silly. Of course he is drunk for mostof the book. The best dialog is of course between Garrick, Celeste and at times Garrick's mother. All in all in was not a bad book despite some of the feviews.

This is my first time reading a novel by Christina Dodd and I enjoyed it very much. I thought the story was good, though with the espionage subplot it was also unnecessarily busy, and there were lots of interesting characters. Celeste is the daughter of Blythe hall's gardener, sent off to learn to be a governess partly to keep her away from the younger son, Ellery, who she has a crush on. When Celeste returns after four years to be governess to the manor's children, she is determined to capture Ellery, and she has a good chance, given her beauty and the polish she acquires in Paris. Ellery's older brother is determined that the roguish Ellery will go through with his marriage to the rich and titled Hyacinth, so he decides to seduce Celeste himself. THAT'S when things begin to go wrong!

This is a fun read with interesting characters doing believable things, and I would read another book by this author.

This book was not bad, but it also was not Miss Dodd's best either. If you have seen Sabrina, you've already visualized most of this book. I'm talking about the original, black and white, not the pathetic remake. None the less, it's still a good read.
Though not as good or gripping as Candle in the Window - by far her best work, it still holds its own and has plenty of humor, adventure, misunderstanding and sex appeal to keep it flowing on its own.

My absolute favorite Christina Dodd. I have several copies of the paperback, and I just had to get the e-book for my kindle. Yes, it's that good. This book kicks off the governess books, and is a wonderful start. It sure made me want to read all of them. Lavish parties, scheming bad guys, all sorts of daring-do, you won't be sorry you read this book!

This is simply a rewrite of the screenplay / movie originally done in the 1950's, called "Sabrina" (Fair). There should have been a statement in the beginning that it was the same story, or at least, there should have been some recognition of the original writer.

Get past the notion that this is a redo of Sabrina and just enjoy the characters, the writing, the wit and the intense passions of this book. It was hard to put down and a joy to pick up. Garrick Throckmorton is a better hero than Harrison Ford and even Humphrey Bogart. Very hot love scenes. A delight all the way.

Great book! Well written and a good story line. This is a great author and I've enjoyed everything I've read by her.
I love this book. Yes it is like Sabrina, but the author is clever enough to make it into a rich and interesting story. The story includes individual stories for the other characters. An all time favorite of mine and I know others will enjoy!
