Solitaire by Sara Craven

This book was recommended. I read and was not disappointed. The talented Muriel Jensen has crafted a wonderful book that features characters so real and a setting so rich that it, too, becomes a character. You'll love Tate Delancey, who with his brothers Mike and Shea, inherit an Oregon winery. Each brother needs a change and so they decide to keep the winery and restore it.

This story has an emotionally remote French man (a film director) and
a lonely,unloved orphan crossing paths.
Marty (Martine) gets an urgent letter from her beloved uncle telling her to,
"come over to my country house in France". Marty arrives to discover,
not only is her uncle dead, the house is now occupied by a rich French
man named Luc. Poor Marty is beyond devastated. She is alone and
has no where to go...Later it is determined that Luc's devilish imp of a son
(Bernard) has forged this letter to cause trouble for his father.
Marty is persuaded to stay and work for Luc as a secretary. How will this work ?
Marty is poor, but proud. Luc is sexy but, distracted (by another female),and
Bernard is scheming in the background.
Overall, has some nice moments and emotions. Also has some good secondary
characters. Sadly, through much of the book,Luc is not so much mean or cruel, but,
treats Marty like an afterthought-not really seeming to care if she stays or leaves.
It is hard to believe there was that much of an attachment there. I cannot believe
that Luc was "that much" into Marty at the end. Interestingly, reads better as a fiction
novel with it's dark emotional moments.

Luc Dumarais was right out of her league. Of necessity she accepted the job he grudgingly offered, but she felt it was only the first step to disaster....
