Lucy Dunne smokes a hash pipe on her balcony and watches London below. Oscar the cat watches the hash pipe. There's a bassline coming through the floor from a party in another apartment. She peeks over the balcony. A body would practically explode on impact thrown from this height. She hears a faint voice in the hall. I'll read you the rest later: my bridge to Lucy Dunne. No, just tell me. My eyes hurt anyway, yours must too. Just tell me instead. He kisses her on the forehead. What a good match we must look like from the outside, he thinks. The car horns sing in chorus.

I wanted to buy this book. I ordered it 7 times from different Amazon vendor. 6 times they said that they never had this book in stock and didn't know how their name got associated with it. Not quite sure what is going on here with Amazon. The samething happened to me on another used book I tried to purchase. The 7th vendor pulled a new scam on me. I ordered this book, which I never received. On checking with him they stated that they shipped it to me at the Amazon provided address and that it was returned to them by the USPS as undeliverable. So I asked them where they shipped it to and they stated my correct address where I receive all of my other Amazon orders with no problems. Ok then I asked for my money back and all they were willing to refund the $2.59 for the book while keeping my $3.99 shipping cost. They refused to return my shipping cost. I still have not received it 3 months later. I really wanted this book and at that time and asked them to send it to me. They refused even after I offered to send them another $3.99 for S/H. This led me to believe that they don't have the book either. This whole experience smacks of a scam to me. If they had the book and they shipped it to me at the correct address I would have received it. So I am assuming this was a scam or they addressed the package wrong (their mistake not mine) In any case they owed me a 100% refund.
I like the old, old Harlequin Romance Books because most of the time the plot is deeper then having scenes of sex or how to have sex in every other chapter.
But I usually have to trade off by having the alpha male be old, mean cold, cruel, or abusive. This story is an exception. As far as both the plot and the alpha male being mean, old, cold, cruel, or abusive. The plot is kind of silly. We find Karim Singh has falling in love with Beth Jackson almost from the first, but he runs hot and cold so much Beth can't believe his almost spastic bouts of love making/ jealous tantrums then plan indifference.
This story happens in 1980, we learn about the Independence in 1947, and the effort of Mrs Gandhi in cleaning up corruption in the monarchy, by making those with titles need to work for their living of starve. Beth is a darling and all she wants to do is retrieve a gold wedding dress and a ruby necklace she was sent to obtain.
Karim has promised Mae Beth's boss that the dress and necklace is ready to be handed over to Beth and all she must do is get them and be on her way.
But when she gets to India, Karim stops her in her tracks, he accuses her of being a hard nosed business woman that can't see anything but the bottom line, and the dress as well as the necklace are both missing.
Of course there is a mean female Amalia who insists that Karim and she are just moments away from marriage.
After going in circles for almost three weeks, Beth is faced with a love she can't refuse.
But does Karim really love her, or is he just trying to throw her off the path of getting the wedding dress and necklace?
From the back of the book: 'India-a trip of a lifetime!
When Beth Jackson learned of her buying trip to India her only concern was to purchase the precious gold wedding dress and ruby necklace for her employer.
Yet before she realized it, Beth had fallen in love with India's beauty and grandeur-and with Karim Singh, a handsome prince and businessman.
Beth was torn between her original mission and this fiery, complex man who grew more impatient each time they met. Could love bridge the wide chasm between their two different worlds?'
