Men in Kilts by Katie Macalister

Chapter One. Chapter Two. Chapter Three. OK, so you’ve been in England for wha. even hours, now? my friend Cait wrote. Have you met any men yet? How come you haven’t written to me? You’re a writer, for Pete’s sake, so write! Tell me everything! Every single detail ! I just got here, I wrote back, giving up on the adapter. I’m tired, the only man I met was a street person who hit me up for a pound by promising to write my name in urine on the sidewalk, and I’ll tell you more when I have something to tell.

I was in serious trouble, but I didn’t know it.

Men in Kilts: A valiant Effort. I did not get adequately through this book what so ever. I apologize, Katie MacAlister, but I feel this is one that could have been put on the back burner. However, knowing what this author is capable I will continue to read her novels.

Katie MacAlister's Men in Kilts is a romantic story that took me away to a sheep farm in the Highlands of Scotland. Kathie Williams is a mystery novelist who goes to England to attend a Mystery Writers conference. She is immediately drawn to a handsome and tall man she see's across the room. You can almost feel Kathie melting when she discovers Iain is a Scotsman with a deep Scottish brogue and all. Quickly - very quickly - their romance takes off. Kathie finds herself immersed into Iain's world and life.

A romantic comedy set in Scotland.

I purchased this for book club. I did not enjoy what I read of this book. I realize that there may be women out there who can't string two sentences together in the presence of a guy they think is hot, but I don't know them, and I don't want to read about them. The heroine is nominally introduced as a mystery writer, but don't worry, she leaves it all behind her to run off with a guy she just met. I heard a plot was introduced later in the book, but I lost the will to read further.

An instant favorite for me since both character's are a wee bit older than you classic romance novels - Kathie is 37 years old and Iain is 47 years old. Their physical attraction and steamy scenes are wonderfully written. Iain's character is a strong, Scotsman who doesn't 'share' much about his feelings but he does 'show' them in his actions - and oh, how his actions speak!

Iain has grown son's for his first marriage and carries some scars from his first marriage; leaving Kathie to break through the wall that Iain has set around his heart. Not all is rosy in Kathie and Iain's relationship. Iain oldest son is about a warm as the Highland's in the winter and Iain's ex-flame (who also happens to be his neighbor), tries everything possible to break the two apart. The trials Kathie and Iain go through brings them to an understanding of each other and bonds them together into a love I felt would last them into forever.

In KM's wonderful writing wit, the story is delightful, romantic, steamy and funny. I really loved this story and have returned for a reread time and time again.

You really had me tied up and embroiled in this book. I can re-read this and still enjoy,but.... for one thing. Hate how it just stopped. No ending, just stopped. Did you get tired out writing it???
Ill try out another of your books and see if this is your style?????
I have hope, I did enjoy your book.

This is my first book with this author (it came highly recommended from a book blog). I really enjoyed the humor and being immersed in the details of the Scottish sheep farmers/country lifestyle. I especially liked that while detailed, the author moved the story forward at a great pace. I will be looking and hoping for more on this great set of characters.

Kathie Williams writes mystery books. She's attending a conference in Manchester, England when she meets sexy and irresistible Ian MacLaren. Kathie falls in love with Ian at first sight and Ian is taken with Kathie as well. After rumpling the sheets of Kathie's hotel room, they head back to Ian's sheep farm in the Highlands. And that's where the trouble starts. Ian's son Archie and his neighbor Bridget hate Kathie, and his housekeeper isn't fond of her either. Then there is Kathie's family who disapproves of their relationship... True love conquers all, right?

Ian is mellow, not a big talker, but when he does, his Scottish bur is delicious. And he is very, very sexy. Kathie is a sweetheart. She has a tendency to whine a bit and burst into tears often but she's sweet and her adoration for Ian is endearing. With its cast of very colorful characters and lots of steamy sex scenes between Ian and Kathie, Men in Kilts is a lot of fun and very entertaining.

First of all, I am not a 'romance-reader'. Nothing against them just never interested, but almost every friend I have is a romance-addict so on their urging I gave it a try and this was the book I picked - based entirely on the title/cover.

Second: I enjoyed this WAAAYYYYY more than I thought I would. It was written in a snappy, modern dilect similar to a sitcom. (think early 'Friends' and 'Seinfeld'.) Being from Wyoming I was able to relate to the book on a couple of levels: The sheep-farming grounded the story enough to add some believability and Kathie reminded me so much of the East-coast women who come out here to, ahem: "Save a horse, ride a cowboy" that I was wiping tears out of my eyes from laughing so hard! Yes, the 'fish out of water' premise is a bit ridiculous but hey, from what I've seen and heard from other romance's there is supposed to be a certain amount of "this could only happen in a cartoon" element.

I had my friends read this as well, they did enjoy it although they also felt it may not entirely qualify as a traditional romance novel. (Kathie's sarcasm kind of detracts from more traditionally softer-spoken heriones.) Hence it is perhaps to not all tastes.

I was not swept off my feet but I was entertained BIG time! And even though Kathie was not some one I would go out of my way to be pals with I was glad to see her succeed in her new surroundings, which rarely happens out here when an East-coast transplant knocks boots with some cute cowboy.

My first time at reading a Katie MacAlister novel but it won't be my last. This book was so much fun to read. Actually, I listened to the audio book which made it very enjoyable with all the Scottish accents. It was read extremely well. I liked it so much that I purchased the book for my Kindle and read through it also.

All the elements are there for a romance novel. It gets a little steamy at times but even that is done with humor. The love, family dynamics, jealous neighbor, culture differences all blend together making this book a joy. I laughed out loud throughout. So, if you are looking for a delightful steamy love story, I highly recommend this one.
