I have two copies of this book actually. The first copy I bought at Barnes and Noble. When I tried to purchase another copy, I could not find it anywhere so I went to Amazon. Amazon always comes through for me.One copy of the book is for me to use.I am trying to learn German and Magyar for a trip in Dec. The other copy I loan out to friends who are traveling. I make flash cards with the each word and write the phonetic spelling to help my pronunciation. I have used the book to learn French and Italian in the past. I find the book extremely helpful. Sometimes I use the book in conjunction with tapes or CD's When I travel,I find the people I meet very friendly and hospitable when I try to speak even a few words in their language. I rate this book as a 5 star. Advice reader: Realize you must practice, practice, and practice. That means lots of repetition. Good Luck!
lets go baby
If you're a traveler, you need to communicate. But, let's face it, you can't learn every language. I like this book because it gives you basic communication ability in 25 key languages. Who couldn't use that?

It gives you the word in English, then the word in their language and script (so you could read a sign or store front), then a pronunciation (so you can make a reasonable stab at saying the word). It covers things like telling time and introducing yourself, too.

I think it is a practical, user-friendly book.
