For some reason I also enjoyed the calendar approach of the book. The recommended way to read is one page per day, in which case it will take exactly one year (plus one day) to finish the book. I don't have the patience for that though, so I strived to read at least one week at a time.

Arthus-Bertrand's aerial photographs have been assembled into a daybook, using 170 shots from his original volume plus 195 new ones. Often taken from a low altitude, they reveal the imprint of human civilization on the face of the globe. Several eminent environmentalists have contributed the texts. Great pictures of different places from all over the world. All aerial shots that the average Joe is never likely to get a chance to view on an ordinary holiday, unless he charters a personal flight over every town he visits!

Air Pano specializes in 3D panoramas of famous landmarks and unusual corners of the planet – erupting volcanoes and such. Of course, it’s different hawks for different folks – I have no objections to plain useful, informative pictures.

With photography, Yann Arthus-Bertrand has captured the beauty of the Earth. Through video and film, his latest projects bind together ecology and humanism. For him, it's all about living together. He has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide of his seminal photo essay Earth From Above, a decade-spanning attempt to photograph all the vistas of the planet from the sky, whether by helicopter, hot air balloon, or anything else that flies. Arthus-Bertrand seeks to uncover the story behind the landscape, not just create a pretty picture. Indeed, his subjects are not always photogenic - his prints show poverty and strife as well as green tranquility; and everywhere in his work is the encroaching hand of humanity and its enterprise.

Faithful to Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s reputation, A THIRSTY WORLD, filmed in some 20 countries, reveals the mysterious and fascinating world of fresh water through spectacular aerial images shot in regions that are difficult to reach and rarely filmed, like Southern Sudan or Northern Congo. It also lets us discover the most beautiful landscapes on our planet, the lakes, rivers and wetlands created by water.
