In 1977, I measured forty skulls of prehistoric whales in the sacred Whale Alley Eskimo memorial site off the Chukchi Peninsula coast. With no knowledge of each other's work, we tentatively came to the same conclusion regarding the orientation of ancestral Eskimo hunters toward juvenile whales as a conscious ecological strategy.
