Women in Saudi Arabia: Ideology and Behavior Among the Elite Soraya Altorki Soraya Altorki provides us a remarkably insightful recap on the state of affairs regarding women’s role, identity and behavior in Saudi Arabia. Before diving into the book, a little bit more about the author. Soraya Altorki is a professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the American University of Cairo. She has been there since 1977 and her field interests are family, gender studies, youth, and comparative religion. Throughout her book, Altorki does provide and sound and compelling argument that a change is occurring within Saudi society, and this change is affecting women and men equally, however men remain the ultimate agents of this change.
