Many Mansions: A Christia. has been added to your Cart. As a long time student of the Christian faith, I felt that my understanding of other world religions was embarassingly small. Harvey Cox gives the reader a good deal of respectful and well presented information - about Hinduism, the Muslim faith, Buddism, and Judaism - all in the winsome light of his own experience of Christianity. The book seems quite contemporary, though it was originally published in the late eighties, as Cox writes of his concern about the rise of fundamentalism in both the Muslim and Christian worlds.

Cox was notably concerned with the encounter of Christianity with religious pluralism, especially as The Center for the Study of World Religions at HDS offered opportunities for engagement with scholars of different faiths, which he wrote about in Many Mansions: A Christian's Encounter with Other Faiths (1988), his book that advocated speaking in interfaith dialogue from your own Christian identity as part.

It is waking up from the sleep of ordinary perception, as the Buddha became awake to the infinite possibility of reality. It is leaving the groove to look at the landscape around. Unitive thinking involves respecting the differences we encounter in the world. Unitive thinking involves realizing the unity within ourselves and of ourselves with all others and ultimately with the All. The sense of separateness that divides us from others and that infernally fragments us is the illusory result of the limits we place on our thinking.
