The travel and tourism industry, along with the related sectors contributing to it, is expected to grow in leaps and bounds in the coming years. A job in this industry can be highly exciting and adventurous and even pays well. In India, the travel industry hopes to create 46 million job opportunities by 2025. Though it was slow to take off in this country, the government's initiatives in this field are uncovering a bright future for those who want to make a career in this field. India's potential in the field of travel and tourism is hardly close to being fulfilled

What’s the difference between travel and tourism? Well, being a traveler is more than just being a holidaymaker. A holiday is just a short time away, and it normally involves relaxation. Travel is an age-old phenomenon, but tourism is a relatively recent invention. Thomas Cook is often described as the first travel agent because he arranged the package tour : a 19-kilometre trip for 500 people, in 1841. After he got back to Italy, Marco Polo talked about his experiences in China, and he wrote a book describing the riches of Asia. Unfortunately, not many people believed Polo’s stories and he became known as the man of a million lies.

Travel and tourism are two arms of the same industry, with the availability of cheaper air travel having boosted the international tourism industry. At the same time, the domestic tourism industry has grown enormously, as every region attempts to maximise its income. As one of the UK's largest industries, it's worth in the region of £80 billion and employs over . million people - around 7% of all people in employment. Much of the work is in hospitality, . hotels, restaurants, pubs, etc, as well as tourist destinations.
