Henry Moore L’atelier, sculptures et dessins. Past: October 15, 2010 → February 27, 2011. This exhibition of the work of English sculptor Henry Moore (1898 – 1986), will be the first Moore retrospective in Paris for more than 30 years
Henry’s Moore’s back in Paris after a 30 year absence and he’s found a decent hotel. He’s moved into the Hôtel Biron, aka the Musée Rodin. More than 150 sculptures, two colossal outdoor pieces, drawings and sketchbooks form part of Henry Moore L’Atelier, a selection of his work from 1930 until the beginning of the 80s. The Shelter Drawings, which portray Londoners finding refuge in the Tube station tunnels during the blitz, remain as poignant and relevant as ever. And the recreation of his studio with his radio, shells, pieces of wood, mini sculptures, remains of a rhino and an elephant head,.

Henry Moore carved Recumbent Figure from a huge block of Green Hornton stone which came from a quarry in Oxfordshire. If you look closely you can see tiny fossils on its surface which help to give the sculpture its rich, rough texture. Its undulating shape makes it look a bit like a landscape. What was he thinking? Henry Moore’s sculptures might look very different to other sculptures of people you have seen
