The first book in this set (Inkheart) is absolutely fantastic. The story drives right along and you're captivated by the characters. It's quite obvious the book was written with an open ending, but without further thought as to sequels.

Once the second book starts, it's quite clear the author thought out the entire rest of the trilogy. The book, Inkspell, has two interesting characteristics: it is the middle of the trilogy, and it, of course, was a complete story. The problem usually is that the story lags in the middle (either the part or the whole) but this book didn't seem to sag at all.

The third book though is just too much. There is so many pages and descriptions I felt myself sighing and putting the book down to let my brain rest for a couple days. The story is compelling, yet there was so much potatoes piled on top I had trouble finding the steak. I'm chalking it up to reader's fatigue!

Overall, this set is so great that after reading it at the library, I did indeed purchase it to add to my personal shelf.

Although this set is recommended for 9 yrs. old and up, I purchased it anyway, for my 6 yr. old granddaughter. Unfortunately, the wording is way above her head. But since she's seen and loves the Inkheart movie and characters I thought I'd give it a try. She stops me when I say a word she doesn't understand so that I can explain the meaning or when she doesn't understand exactly what's happening, so it is slow going. Surprisingly she is not only anxious to keep going but is also increasing her vocabulary! When she's not visiting, I, too, are enjoying these books! Highly recommend!!

The books are fabulous. Really well written and entertaining. The plot and characters are are amazing. A very interesting read. I would highly recommend the audiobook version voiced by Brendan Frasier. He does an awesome job with narrating the fantasy world.

If you want to buy a hardcover book I would not recommend any of the booksellers. The description of the condition with vendors can be misleading and you are left to pay shipping costs in order to get a refund. I had an experience with this particular series. The books were noted to be in good condition-like new, and they were not like new.

My niece was reading this YA series for the second or third time and she liked it so well I decided to read it. I discovered the series is exciting for adults as well as children. It's an imaginative and fun to read, though more violent then I like at times. It has a unique plot where the characters enter into the the fantasy world of a book. I don't want to say more and spoil the plot.

My daughter is a book worm and I have shopped all over for this set, and either couldn't find it or it was way to pricey! Thanks to amazon I got what I wanted at a great price! BTW this series is totally awesome! All 7 of my kids fought over who got to start reading these first! We even got the movie to go with it!

This book series is one of the best fantasy series I've ever read. I could not put these books down. They put the movie to shame in entirety. The series follows the story of a father and daughter who are searching for their wife and mother, while fighting off an evil villain, whose story they've found themselves stuck in. These books have well written plots, realistic characters, a perfect mixture of magical and real -- and an outstanding portrayal of the battle between good and evil, even within ourselves.

Warning: Book three is intense and likely to prompt sadness in the reader. The calm after the storm is well worth the journey though. You'll find yourself rooting for the characters as they travel through, even as you bite your nails in suspense. ;)
This was a good, clean copy. As always, I was pleased by this sellers' prompt delivery and dependable products.
