All who read this book will get a clear insight into the early life of a great angler. It starts in 1929 when Bob was born and meanders its way through his school days to fishing the Old Lea for Stone Loach and Christmas in the early 1930s. Bob then takes you through the war years, after his National service, ending in the halcyon days at The Royalty and Southill Park, with so much more in-between

I found that the book had a natural and easy flow to it, and you find yourself getting lost in the life of a father and son. I actually didn’t realise at first that it wasn’t a memoir, but a fictional story. This is how realistic Keith Stuart’s writing i. he story will have you working out, emotion-wise. One minute you will be laughing and feeling happy, the next you may as well let the tears flow as sadness creeps in. This is a beautiful, heart-warming story about a father and son, and how Minecraft became the joining bridge between them.
I DON’T know what happened to autumn this year. It still felt like summer a few weeks ago and now it’s more like winter up in my neck of the woods – the chilly North East. Obviously the sharp change in weather affects roach in particular and I’m having to change my approach for this species quite dramatically, compared to the summer tactics I was using not that long ago. Groundbait. My first winter tip for roach concerns groundbait. Whereas when the water temperatures are high and you can normally get away with feeding groundbait quite freely, I find in cold weather it has to be fed much more.
