Ah, Horrible Histories. This series is single-handedly responsible for the fact that, as a child, I thought British history was fascinating, while American history was inherently boring. One look at the cover will show you why. I didn't want to read about how noble George Washington or Harriet Tubman had been. I wanted a good story, and no good story ever came of the myth that American history has been all for the best in this best of all possible countries. It just goes to show that sanitizing Ah, Horrible Histories. As an adult, I can see the flaws in the Horrible Histories series. Terry Deary has a tendency to take the most sensational interpretation of the evidence and present it as what definitely happened. It's not the most rigorous historiographical approach, and, as an adult, I take everything in his books with a grain of salt.
