A Gift of Magic is a 1971 novel by Lois Duncan about a grandmother who gives her grandchildren distinct gifts. Brendon is given the gift of music, Kirby is given the gift of dance, and Nancy is given the gift of magic. The novel explores some of the benefits, problems and responsibilities Nancy's gift gives her.

When the old woman died, she left her grandchild Nancy with the extraordinary gift of magic. Nancy can read people's minds, know their thoughts, and make them do what she wants. Will she use her gift for good, or satisfy her own selfish desire?
BOOK BLURB: When the old woman died, she left each of her grandchildren something very special. For Kirby, the gift of dance. For Brendon, the gift of music. And for Nancy, the most extraordinary gift of all. She knows who is at the door even before they knock and who is calling on the phone before it rings. She can get inside people's minds. She can read their thoughts. I have been enjoying Lois Duncan and her books for more years than I care to admit. I know her primary audience is YA, but they are so well-written and plotted that they are easily enjoyed by adult readers. Genres: Teen & Young Adult Authors, A-Z ( D ) Duncan, Lois.
Other readers will always be interested in your opinion of the books you've read. Whether you've loved the book or not, if you give your honest and detailed thoughts then people will find new books that are right for them.
A Gift Of Magic (1999). The plot of A Gift of Magic is much more straightforward than Stranger with my Face and comparatively mundane, allowing for the inclusion of middle child Nancy discovering at 12 that she has multiple psychic abilities despite the family never suspecting that such things ran in the family. Did none of the family wonder how Nancy's grandmother knew her daughter would have a third child, a son, two years before his birth? much less that he'd have a gift for music?
