Sometimes justice is more important than the law. Criminal defence lawyer Harrison J. Walker, better known as Jaywalker, has been suspended for his unorthodox and highly creative tactics in the courtroom. Convincing the judge that his clients are counting on him, Jaywalker is allowed to complete just ten more cases. But it's the last case that truly tests his abilities - and his acquittal record. Samara Ross is accused of stabbing her husband through the heart. Having married the elderly billionaire when she was just eighteen, Samara looks guilty as hell. But Jaywalker knows all to well that appearances can be very deceiving.

This book grabbed ahold of me on page one and didn't let go. I finished it in a number of hours to the exclusion of almost every other activity over the Labor Day weekend. I love court thrillers, with all their "I objects" and "if it please the court" dialog. I love the way the trials zig and zag and know that there will be surprises along the way. And it seems, nobody does it better than Teller. His legal knowledge is formidable and his ability to weave it into a compelling plot is impressive. The main characters -- Jaywalker and Semara Moss -- are memorable and realistic. The only thing that bothered me was the ending, about which I'll not go into detail. It's not that the ending was terrible -- it just didn't measure up to what I deem a very strong, very riveting plot. Teller, on the basis of the two novels of his that I have read, has become one of my favorite authors. If you like courtroom dramas, he's your man.
This is the first Jaywalker book and my first read of Joseph Teller. The question is, whay did I wait so long?? Great stuff here. Harrison J. Walker, attorney, whose name has become Jaywalker, to almost everyone. A very highly regarded criminal attorney, who wins by any means possible...enough to be about to suspended from practice for three years. He is allowed to finish ten cases. The TENTH CASE is just that, the last before the three years. A murder case with rich older husband and young young wife who is accused of killing him. This will be a very tough case. Teller brings us deeply into the case using a unique court room style. I liked it. I will certain keep reading in this series. RECOMMENDED
Another Teller hit! I have read many "lawyer novels" but I can honestly say that this ending absolutely stunned me. Without giving away too much of the story, this is about the murder of a billionaire by his very young wife, who appears to be the only suspect. Her attorney, Jaywalker, represented her in the past on a lesser charge, and now is representing her on the murder charge. Teller, as a former criminal defense lawyer turned author, gives lots of details about criminal law, judges, juries, etc. I think you will find it a fascinating read!
200 pages of the main character lamenting on how there was no way he could win his case. He doesnt have to keep telling us. Enough already! If its that bad why should I keep reading! Stop beating me over the head with your despair just to show me how brilliant you are at the end. That just sucked all the drama out. And, WAAAAY too many words. Could have been 70 pages shorter. But, finally the last 50 pages or so got the story moving along. Good ending.
This is My first Joseph Teller book and it wont be the last.
The story was good and very well told. The characters are believable and the story could have happened in real life.
Samaras life has been hell, until she meets her sugardaddy. But it all turns to S#$!& when She marries Him.
Result???? The husband is murdered. (of course). Samara is arrested for His murder,But here comes Jaywalker.
The resulting courtcase is great. It is at times very funny and at times sad.
The ending is very surprising, which I didn't see coming.
Why Jaywalker didn't just spend the rest of His life representing Prostitutes is beyond Me.
I recommend this book to all.
This book is well written and thoroughly enjoyable. I always look for Tellers novels and this was a really good read.
Good read
Very entertaining. Well-written. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and/or procedural.
