I found this book very satisfying and I am working my way through the series. I gather these books were known years ago in England (there was even a tv series, though I read that it changed a lot). It’s old and old-fashioned but in a good way as it shows Anna, a working detective, as she follows clues and asks questions and eventually unravels the truth. It doesn’t matter that there are no cell phones and she has to find pay phones! There are interesting characters and amusing wordplay. I am a fan of the more recent American female private eyes, and I think this series fits right in.
Picked up this book after learning Lisa Cody's Anna Lee was a precursor to Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone. The London private inquiry agent is as independent and feisty, but not quite as quirky. The background characters stand out and I want to get to know them better. The plot is smart, and the story well paced, yet only mildly satisfying. I will definitely move on to the next book in the series.
Liza Cody's first novel.
Anna gets a job to find out the death of Deirde Jackson. While trying to find out she meets different people and answers many of her questions.
