Betrayal in Death book. And I'm going to listen the other books instead of reading because Susan Ericksen (Narrator) did an excellent job. She made me to change my mind about audiobooks! :) Also her impression of Roarke (with Irish accent) is giving me goosebumps. So yeah, I'll definitely gonna listen the other books soon

Betrayal In Death is another great audio. I have listened to . Robb's in Death series multiple times and am still entertained by Susan Erickson's characterizations. Out of 44 in Death books with the 45th Calculated in Death due in Feb. 2013, I am rarely disappointed. If you could sum up Betrayal in Death in three words, what would they be? Great fantastic read. What other book might you compare Betrayal in Death to, and why? Any of the in death book in the series. What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

This story opens with the brutal beating, rape and murder of a hotel maid; a maid who happens to be working in a grand hotel owned by none other than Roarke! And the killing continues and the body count increases – both men and women. The only thing in common is that they are all connected or employed by – yep, you guest it – Roarke. The back drop in a multi-million auction being given by a well know actress and the auction is being managed by – yup – Roarke.

An old friend from Roarke’s past from Ireland shows up and the plot thickens. Is he one of the good guys or is he one of the bad ones? Only reading will tell!

In this 12th addition to this long lasting and extremely popular series gives us more insight to the relationship between Lt. Eve Dallas and her multi-billionaire husband Roarke. Most of the characters we have become acquainted with in past books are present as per usual, the author has held true as to their personalities and quirks.

This one has enough suspects; some obvious, some not so obvious that it keep the reader interested as to whodoneit right up until almost the end. Prose wise the author holds to her normal high standards. IT must be remembered that these are primarily police procedural/mysteries with a high amount of romance intermingled throughout which is not surprising coming from Nora Roberts.

This work, along with the rest of the books in the series which are around 50 now are easy and fast reads and most of them can well be classified as page turners.

It should also be noted, for those that are interested, that some of the sexual situations in these books can be rather graphic (I suppose intense would be a better description than “graphic’) as well as some of the blood and gore which goes along with murder, i.e. Eve Dallas is a murder cop.

All in all I was well satisfied with this read.

FINAL DECISION: More a thriller than a mystery, this one tests Eve's skills as she hunts a professional killer who has Roarke in his sights. I loved the pacing of this one and the exploration of Roarke's past.

THE STORY: The rape and murder of a hotel maid in one of Roarke's hotels brings Eve on the case of a professional killer who seems to be targeting those who work for Roarke. Eve fears that Roake is the final target. But because the killer is a hired gun, Eve also has to figure out who is the hidden figure behind these crimes. The solution might rest in Roarke's shady past.

OPINION: This is a page turner from beginning to end as Eve races against time to find the killer. The book is focused and exciting and has plenty of emotional heft between Eve and Roarke as she is the caretaker this time. This story shakes Roarke and Eve is the one who not only has to solve the crime but also manage the emotions of Roarke.

This book demonstrates how well this series does crime combined with serious character development. Eve and Roarke center this story. While the crimes are salacious and over the top at times, the emotional heart of the series is the relationship between these two and how they are opening up to one another and building a relationship.

The killer in this case is a professional who has some interesting quirks which make him memorable and particularly vicious. It is a particularly nasty episode, but the twist at the end gives this some good emotional connection.

WORTH MENTIONING: A cute part of the book is Eve and Roarke ending up giving relationship advice to Peabody and McNab.

CONNECTED BOOKS: BETRAYAL IN DEATH is the twelfth book in the In Death series. This book has an independent and stand alone mystery with continuing personal story lines.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

#12 of the In Death series. Eve is looking for a killer - a paid assassin - with a very specific MO: beat, rape, then strangle with a sterling silver wire. He has had at least 40 victims of both genders during the past 40 years and has never been caught. He commands exorbitant fees.

It appears he is now killing people with connections to Roarke; first a maid at the Palace Hotel and then an editor/publisher. Then Eve figures out that Roarke isn't actually a personal target, rather an auction of art, jewelry and other memorabilia belonging to a legendary actress that is to be held at the Palace Hotel - a diversionary tactic to distract him from security. And Eve knows the assassin has 2 more targets to kill.

The gang is practically all here; Leonardo is only mentioned but just about everyone else makes an appearance. Peabody and MacNab have a big fight - MacNab is jealous because Peabody continues to see Charles Monroe.

Summerset plays a bigger role than usual in this one. I LOVE Summerset!

An old friend of Roarke makes an appearance as well. His role is predictable but he's still an interesting character.

Not the best of the series IMO but still very good! 4 stars.

J, D. Robb 's New York in 2059 still reflects the excitement and grittness of NYC in the 21st century. What's missing today, however, is a cop like Eve Dallas. Tenacious, smart, committed and incorruptible; only a few of the characteristics of Eve Dallas. Although there are extensive
medical advances in 2059 human behavior appears to remain unchanged. Murder is still a huge factor and a societal blemish. Betrayal in Death showcased the best of our cop Eve Dallas, her team and her evolving relationship in her marriage with Roake. Robb makes each character believable by incorporating real emotions and behaviors that are timeless. Add the element of murder and suspense and you've a story that you can't stop reading. I love this series!
