Cross Fire is James Patterson at his best. The story picks up where I, Alex Cross concluded with Kyle Craig making his presence known to Alex, and reminding Alex of his intentions to kill him and his family.. Kyle take on the facial features, voice pattern and mannerism of an Agent Max Siegle. Siegle had been undercover for many years. So Kyle was able to kill him and assumed his identity, through plastic surgery with little fanfare. In the meanwhile, Alex and his team are chasing a team of killers- The killers are well-trained sharp shooters tasked with killing prominent people. Consequently, Alex and Sampson are chasing the mathematician killer. Bree and Alex are planning their wedding in the mist of the mayhem and murders.. Vintage Alex Cross and Patterson.. Not sure, and sad, The Mastermind is gone.. He is so evil, yet intriguing, it is amazing that someone could be so intelligent and evil in the same breath. Only time will tell if KC is really gone this time... Bravo J.P.

I should probably start by saying that I think this book would be much better if you have read previous Alex Cross books. I jumped into this one because I was told that you can pick up any of them and start reading. I was exposed to James Patterson through another series of his (one with a co-author) and I find that this one is very different. Although I enjoy most of the writing, there are parts that I feel like I got lost or missed something.... but that might also be from reading late at night! I HIGHLY suggest getting this on the Kindle if you can because the print version that I got was literally missing pages due to a bad printing. I had luckily noticed the bad ink because I was looking through it for some random reason before I started reading it. I'm not opposed to reading on the kindle, but my kids steal the kindle a lot so I wanted to make sure I could read whenever I wanted. However... I ultimately ended up with a kindle edition and it worked out fine. With his style of writing (shorter chapters), it's not too bad to read on the kindle for me.

A two-man sniper team with the latest made rifle taunt Dr.Cross as they apparently indiscriminately kill unrelated people.
Alex investigates the murders in his way, and becomes involved with a murder that involves an unsolveable mathematical problem.
He is also plagued by his arch nemesis Kyle Craig and has to deal with that in the back of his mind.
He manages to solve the sniper killings and the math killings, then gets married.
While on the honey moon a shocking twist develops and has to be taken care of without weapons available.
An exciting read that keeps reader fully involved with accurate discriptions of muders and crime scenes.

I thought the end of the mastermind would be more thought provoking than a generic alex cross boxing match. Alex cross is a cop with training in boxing. It is ridiculous that the profiler always seems to best trained operatives in combat. To build up how imposing his foes are patterson makes them sound like killing machine but throughout the series once the moment of truth comes even a person like Craig, who is special forces, is overpowered by a good punch and hair spray? Stupid , all of his enemies seemingly cannot fight . Even th tiger from cross country was no match for Mr. Invincible.

I didn’t know what to think of this book for the longest time while reading it. It wasn’t the best and it wasn’t the worst. It was just somewhere in the middle.

It was more of a suspense novel that kept you guessing. It kept you guessing the backstories of the killers and also when a big reveal would eventually take place.

I spent most of my time reading just waiting for the bomb to drop.

Max Siegel is one of the most important characters in this book and not in a good way. It was almost frustrating knowing the truth before Alex did because you wanted him to just guess what was going on.

That being said, it was still very entertaining. There was a lot of action and a lot of character growth with Bree’s character. We got to see more of her and her interactions with the Cross family which was nice.

Once I got to the end, I was beyond excited. I wont post spoilers here, but I will put them under the cut. I cannot wait to read the next one now.

This Alex Cross novel was a good suspense triller and a good read but for myself I thought some of the characters got a little carried away. What I mean is I've seen a pattern with some of the last few Alex Cross novels Patterson has written for his fans of the series. Some aspects seem little over the top but still didn't stop me from reading this book of his and his series. I read it in four days time because I found it to be very full of thrills and suspense. I took one star off because I didn't care for how some of chracters were killed off. Not to be a spoiler but Alex Cross seems like a chicken with his head cut off trying to solve so many crimes while trying to plan his wedding while his main enemy (Kyle Craig) tries to kill him once again, but Alex doesn't reconsize him because.... you have to buy the book to find out why. I say this don't believe all the bad reviews people post up on amazon about books, movies, music and so forth. Make up your own mind and see if you end up enjoying the book as much as I did. I mean four days to read a book roughly about 360 pages is a pretty fast read.

After a self inflected hiatus on Alex Cross ( they were just too predictable) I began again with this as I'm not sure of the last one I read. It is obvious family is still important to this guy. He still has the capacity to love deeply and I held my breath to the end as it felt as though something or someone would stop the wedding. Kyle Craig his old nemesis is back but the plot left too many loose ends at the end. Who hired Kyle? Why did they not make sure it was Kyle instead of just doing a body count? Where did the gold go ? As far as that goes what's happened to good old police procedural steps and the psychological evaluations Alex was so good at doing and explaining? This was a pretty good.tale and kept me entertained for a couple of days. A good read for most anyone except kiddies. I'm trying the next one but won't be surprised if Craig or a crony shows up !!
