Richard Russell (born 18 March 1971 in Dollis Hill, London) is the owner of British record label XL Recordings. After leaving school he DJed on pirate radio and worked for the Caroline label before relocating to New York to work in the Vinyl Mania record shop. On his return to the UK in 1990 he started to work for City Beat, before moving over to their sister label, XL Recordings as A&R manager. Richard Lion Russell (July 22, 1924 – November 21, 2015) was an American writer on finance. Russell was born in New York, the son of Hortense (Lion) Russell, a novelist, and Henry Harold Russell, a civil engineer. Russell educated at Rutgers and received his BA at NYU. Russell flew as a combat bombardier on B-25 Mitchell bombers with the 12th Air Force during World War II.
