Tensleep is a winner! Sarah Andrews combines the best elements of the mystery and the novel of the contemporary West to bring us a fresh-voiced new heroine. A major part of the joy of this book is witnessing Em’s personal and professional growth as she grapples with solving the mystery in all its geological, oil-field technical, and human aspects".

I picked up this book earlier this week at a used-book store and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the mystery good, but a female sleuth who did not irritate me (as so many other feminine sleuths do, . Kinsey Milhone, Stephanie Plum, Kay Scarpetta, and yes, Miss Marple, too). If you are a fan of the series, Tensleep is a must read. I am really surprised that this, Sarah Andrews first (and in some ways best) novel is out of print. It is worth the $$$$ you will have to pay for a used copy.

Geologist Emily Hansen, working as a mudlogger in the Tensleep Sandstone oilfield near tiny Meeteetse, Wy. is sorely troubled by the seemingly accidental death of head geologist Bill Kretzmer and the subsequent killing of his protÇgÇ Willie Sewell, who had suspicions of his own. Inexplicable things are happening at the drilling operations, too, all of it overseen by vulgarly nasty company engineer Ed Meyer and his quiet sidekick Merle Johnson. Geologist Emily Hansen, working as a mudlogger in the Tensleep Sandstone oilfield near tiny Meeteetse, Wy.

The protagonist is an underachieving woman geologist trying to blend with the male world of an oil rig in the hinterlands of Wyoming. However, the routine is shattered by two strange and inexplicable deaths and questionable details of the operation.

I've read all of Sarah Andrews books with much enjoyment, Tensleep, however, was my favorite. Sadly this first novel is out of print. I bought this used copy for a friend who worked for the Wyoming DEQ -- She loved it. Tensleep introduces us to the unassuming heroine, Em Hansen working in the Wyoming oil patch. All of the books in Andrew's mystery series are gently didactic, nicely paced, educational and always fun to read.

This is the first in the series of books by Sarah Andrews which feature heroine, Em Hansen. It's a great start and includes a quirky but successful combination of sleuth, geologist, environmentalist, and gutsy woman.

The main character was a bit unbelievable and odd.

I can't say enough good about the Em Hansen mysteries. It's easy to get into the character and hard to put the books down. Tensleep is another winner!

Good series

this is the start of the story for Em. It's a food read with the sometimes painfully naive young geologist
Interesting mystery in an industry I know well.
