I have read other Donna Hill books, and she can definitely do better. I felt like some of the character and plot development was rushed in the novel, and it could have been much better had time been taken out to let things progress at a more even pace. It is an okay book, but nothing spectacular. Aug 16, 2008 Shone rated it it was amazing.

JUST DO IT
I have been putting off purchasing this book and finally did two weeks ago. I cannot begin to say what a great read this book was. The story line was so very interesting, relating to a real life issue that is so relevant today and will continue to be a topic down through the ages. Both the hero and the heroine were subject to the story line and both dealt with this issue differently, but then they both ended with helping to solve this so relevant issue - which I love by the way how the story ended. I have read several of Donna Hill's books and find her to be a very, very good author and this book is no except to the greatness of this author. Like I said , it's a great read - so don't hesitate to go and purchase it - you will enjoy this book.

This is the third book I have read of Ms. Donna Hill. She is an excellent writer and one of my favorite arabesque romance writers. However, I feel that this book was not as good as the two previous books I read, A Private Affair and Pieces of Dreams. After reading those books, maybe my expectations of this book were too high. Chances Are was very predictable and seemed rushed. However, it seemed to pick up speed toward the end. It was a good read overall, for the fact that a woman can endure hardship and still make it above all. Dionne had unconditional love for her daughter, Niyah, and did not want to do anything to sacrifice that, even if it meant keeping the truth from her. The ending is good, but would have been better if it was more detailed, and not so brief. The good thing is Dionne was able to overcome her fears and find love in the end. Donna Hill still remains to be one of my favorite authors and I will continue to read all of her books. Keep them coming Ms. Hill!

"Chances Are" by Donna Hill is one of those great novels that show you that almost anything is possible. Her main character Dione come from a place where she was put out into the streets at a very young age while pregnant. She was able to come from nothing to a very strong independent woman. Even with all that she has gained, she has no true love in her life, other than that of her daughter and lovely Ms. Betsy. She now has her own business helping young single mothers. In the process of trying to save the home she meets a dashing man name Garrett. While she has a strong passion of love for the girls, his is quiete different. Even tho' he is the key to the homes survival, they run into there own demons. It's a wonderful story of what can happen with hard work, dedication and an open mind. Another great Donna Hill book to add to any collection!

Great story with a wonderful theme of unconditional love and forgiveness. The author did a great job of building the characters into real people with real issues.

This story was my first by Hill and it was great! Hill has a great writing style that just makes readers want to jump into the story unitl it ends!! I love it Great read! Much Love Hill!
How come when you read a good book it ends so quickly? Duh, I just answered my own question..because it's good. Ms. Hill keep up the good work.
