GONE FOR GOOD is Harlan Coben's ninth successful novel. If it is action you crave this thriller transmits it in spades. As in all Coben novels New Jersey is his venue of choice with short side trips to Albuquerque and Boise. Eleven years ago Ken Kline fled his suburban Newark home after being accused of raping and straggling his neighbor, Julie Miller. Now an international fugitive, Ken is believed by some to be dead. However, three days before his mother dies of cancer, she tells her younger son, Will Kline, that she knows Ken is alive. Will, an assistant director of a home for runaways and his pal, Yogi Squares, the director for the home provide counseling, food and temporary shelter to the children of the night encamped in the darkest and most dangerous parts of Newark. The day of his mother's funeral, Will's girlfriend, Sheila, disappears only to have her finger prints show up at the site of a double murder in Albuquerque. Will, with the help of his well-connected friend, Squares, attempts to find out how these tragedies are tied together. Assistant director of the New York City FBI, Joseph Pistillo, who has a personal grudge against Ken, starts harassing Will believing that he is protecting Ken and knows where he is hiding. Also in the mix is a contract killer, John Asselta, better known as the Ghost, who loves to break fingers and necks for the fun of it. He too is threatening Will to find out the whereabouts of brother, Ken, so he can kill him.
This novel is loaded with surprises on every page. Its snappy dialogue and lifelike characters qualify this suspenseful thriller as a true page turner. The ending is the surprise of all surprises but a bit amateurish, the only weak part of the story. I give this novel a stron

Will Klein suffers shocking losses in this book. His brother Ken, wanted for the murder of Will's ex-girlfriend, runs off and disappears after the murder. Then years later, when Will falls in love for the second time, the woman he loves disappears.

The interesting thing about Will as a hero is that he hates violence, has no fighting skills, and considers himself a coward. As a boy, Will was protected from bullies by his brother Ken, who never shirked a fight. But Will has a mission now. He wants to find his brother and prove his innocence. He also wants to find his girlfriend.

Will's inquiries put him up against some very nasty characters. He has an interesting sidekick – a popular yoga teacher called Squares. The two of them work at a shelter for homeless kids. Squares was a Neo-Nazi in his youth, before he turned compassionate and caring. He has lots of connections and resources useful in an unofficial investigation.

Harlan's Coben's thrillers are always intricately and unpredictably plotted. This one is packed with shocks and reversals. People are not who they seem. Events are deceptive.

There is a particularly fascinating villain known as the Ghost, who appears and vanishes as his moniker suggests, takes pleasure in hurting people, and has a very complicated agenda.

Harlan Coben is a dependable writer of excellent thrillers. This one is up to his usual high standards.

started with one Harlan Coben novel recommended by a friend...and then another, and another. I read some reviews and then decided to read the Myron Bolitar series...every single book, right up to the long awaited newest one, HOME, and I'm so glad I did! DON'T LET GO was superb and I loved that I can still be surprised by the exciting, unexpected twists Coben has as the plot reaches its resolution. Like other reviewers, I'd like to see more of the main character, Will, and hope this might be the beginning of another series. I am going back and looking for any of Coben's books that I might have missed. I have never been disappointed to a Harlan Coben novel and that's saying something! If you love to read, love a good book and have already enjoyed Coben's writing - or If you’re a new, soon-to-be-fan - this book will be a great read!

I’ll be honest...initially, I was unsure if I would like this book. I’d purchased it in error a few months ago, plus it is not a genre I typically go for. I didn’t want my monies spent to be in vain, so I eventually felt obligated to read it. But that feeling quickly disappeared once I found myself hooked on Coben’s simplistic yet profound style of writing. I enjoyed all the many plot twists, and seeing one of the most monstrous of characters turn out to be something of a saint (and in vice versa). Going forward, I’ll be sure to check out more books from him and even the series on Netflix I just discovered, based on one of his books (Safe). I was a skeptic, but Coben made me a believer! ????

This is the first book I've read by Harlan Coben and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. At first I had a hard time getting into it but I believe it was because I had to get used to the narrator. I had to rewind a few times in the beginning because my mind kept wandering and I'd realize that I hadn't heard a word. Finally I managed to focus and after a while I began to get caught up in the story. From that point on it got better and better until I finished the whole thing in one sitting. There are a lot of twists and turns so I was kept guessing on several points. I enjoyed that the most because it's very rare for me to find a book that I don't figure out within the first few chapters. I would definitely recommend this book and I plan to start another one by this author right away.
