The Horse Show At Midnight consist of poems Taylor wrote while still an undergraduate at the University of Virginia, and many of the poems in An Afternoon of Pocket Billiards were composed while he was in the graduate writing program at Hollins Collage. Despite their youthful provenance, the poems display an already emergent skill and power. Henry Taylor's poems are down to earth and very enjoyable. I especially liked "Riding a One-eyed-Horse" and only Henry could have put this experience in a poem-those of us who have experienced this with our one-eyed horses are most appreciative of his writing ability.
