Hilary Norman - the complete book list. This was followed by Chateau Ella, which was equally successful, and most recently. She now lives in London.

Hilary Norman is an international bestseller author who has written thrillers and crime fiction novels. A move away from my good friend Detective Sam Becket, his troubled family and the Florida sun, travelling north-east to a blizzard-lashed New England.

Too Close’ was the third book I read by Hilary Norman who is fast becoming one of my favourite thriller writers! ‘Too Close‘ tells the story of Nick Miller and what happened after he allowed himself to get too close to the girl next door- Holly Bourne! When the story starts both Nick and Holly are children. The book starts to take on quite sinister overtones after this with terrible things happening to Nick and his family. As a reader, it is quite gripping because Hilary Norman will introduce some new element and you start thinking ‘is this for real or is it part of Holly’s scheme?’ She also shortens the length of the chapters to make it feel quite pacy and at times I could almost feel my heart pounding as I read it!

An Experiment in Love (1995) by Hilary Mantel is the story of one girl’s passage into womanhood. Carmel is an unexceptional girl from Lancashire, who finds herself studying Law at university in London in 1970, at a time of great social upheaval. Having attended an all-girl Catholic school as a child, Carmel is green to the world, but in London she is joined by two fellow classmates from home: Karina, a distant and difficult girl from a European family, and Julianne, an accomplished young lady who becomes Carmel’s roommate. Indeed, it’s Carmel’s mother who pushes her daughter into a shaky friendship with Karina as a child; a friendship that will prove destructive. Karina is a difficult character: fiercely jealous, she glories in puncturing the happiness of others at every opportunity.

An Experiment in Love. Title: An Experiment in Love. Author: Hilary Mantel. Hilary Mantel is justly compared to Muriel Spark as a satirist; this cunning plot with its hidden agenda of violence and betrayal has something in common with Spark's elegant parables. Judy Cooke, New Statesman & Society. (Mantel) specializes in shock effects, especially aftershock, which is what her book ghoulishly delivers. The friendship between Carmel, Julianne, and Karina is what is most significant. It can hardly be described as friendship: they don't seem to like each other all that much, but they do take care of and look out for each other, feeling some sort of bond. It is one that is easily broken, as they eventually easily drift apart in their separate lives.

Two men--Andreas Alessandro, a racingcar champion and Daniel Silberstein, an acclaimed gourmet critic--are bound together for life by an unforgettable night that shaped their childhood

An utterly readable and fascinating book, highly recommended! I have read other books by this author and each one different yet equally readable. The story line is strong, characters are real, an all-together brilliant book that will not disappoint. Maureen Rowland-Aitken Johannesburg South Africa

This is a book that you can read, put down, pick up again and not really worry that you might have "missed" anything. The storyline - albeit a little far-fetched and unrealistic in parts - does keep your interest long enough to want to finish the book. Light reading. An enjoyable and pleasant read - without being memorable.

The book's pages were a little yellowed and the small print made it difficult for me to read unfortunately fro me.

I originally read this book when it was published about 20years ago. It was great then and is still great. Hilary Norman has a way of beautifully weaving the past and present together. The characters are fully developed and timeless. I love all of her books and I highly recommend them to others.
