I first found Virgins when I was a teen and read it so many times. Sadly, though, I lost my original copy at some point. When searching for a new one, I discovered this book and promptly bought it, too.

Virgins is funny. There are some dark moments, but for the most part, it is lighthearted. Part of that is the fact that it is written in first-person and includes Peg's thoughts.

Girls is still amusing, but not as much as Virgins. This book deals with more adult subjects and approaches them with a more mature outlook. There is a lot more character growth and development in Girls than there was in Virgins. Also, Girls is written in third-person and focuses on all the characters, not just Peg. (This leads to a heart-breaking scene with Peg and Sean, where the reader knows what each character is thinking, but the characters don't. So they miss their chance.)

Overall, a good follow-up to Virgins.

If you want to laugh and be engaged, buy this book.
It's romantic, it's funny, its political, and it has something to say. I read this book first, then the 'Virgins' book that came before it. I enjoyed them both. You can read them in either order.
The author has a real flare for the absurd and for excellent characterizations. I'll read anything she writes, but I truly fell in love with these characters.

I love this book! It is the sequal to the hilarious "Virgins". Anyone woman who grew up going to Catholic school will fall on the floor laughing at this one.
