War of the Mountain Man. William W. Johnstone. Smoke Jensen, The Beginning. Brutal Night of the Mountain Man. Mamma, a child’s voice said excitedly. I seen him on the cover of a book. That’s Smoke Jensen! After a lot of apologies and much embarrassment on the part of those in the house, Smoke was invited to sit down and eat. A small boy took Dagger to the barn. Children could handle the big mean-eyed stallion, but Dagger would kill a grown man who tried to mess with him. Smoke tried to put some family resemblance between the young woman and the old couple. He could not see any.
If you like westerners, then the mountain man series is for you. Johnstone brings his characters alive. There are some definite differences and it's still a good book, but the fundamentals are way too similar. For someone reading just this book, the novel is very, very good. Seems to me that Johnstone found himself in the midst of starting this series along with pumping out other books in different genres and ran into trouble.
William W. When The Bullets Start To Fly: Smoke Jensen sat in a cave and boiled the last of his coffee. He figured he was in Idaho - somewhere south of Montpelier - but he was certain about only two things: he was cold and he was being hunted by a small army of men. Smoke knew why he was cold - it was winter. He just didn't have a clear idea of why anyone was after him. He was soon to find out that he'd unwittingly ridden into the middle of the fiercest range war in years. Now he had to either choose sides or return home across the back of a horse.

About book: Over the past four months I have been reading the Mountain Man series by William W. They are a throwback to the old west and come complete with rugged turrain, outlaws, Indians, and heroes. I enjoyed these books for the simple reason that I feel transported back to a simpler time when right was right, wrong was wrong, and there wasn't nearly so much gray. Johnstone is the USA Today and New York Times bestselling author of over 300 books, including Preacher, The Last Mountain Man, Luke Jensen Bounty Hunter, Flintlock, Savage Texas, Matt Jensen, The Last Mountain Man; The Family Jensen, Sidewinders, and Shawn O'Brien Town Tamer. His thrillers include Phoenix Rising, Home Invasion, The Blood of Patriots, The Bleeding Edge, and Suicide Mission. As usual William W. Johnstone wrote another story of the West being settled. A man named Jud who fancied himself King as he was the richest, and owned most of the area around him anyway. The only problem was that he was sincerely crazy.
