The Sacketts are the unforgettable pioneer family created by master storyteller Louis L'Amour to bring to vivid life the spirit and adventure of the American frontier. The Sacketts always stood tall and, true to their strong family pride, they would unite to take on any and all challenges, no matter how overwhelming the odds

I had the honor to meet this man at the California State Reading Conference in Sacramento, CA for teachers nearly about 50 years ago. He was a featured speaker so I attended. After his presentation I went down onto the floor and was fortunate enough to meet him. We visited for a time and I asked for his autograph to show my 8th grade students. At that time I asked if any of his book would interest young people. Down the Long Hills was his reply. I told I regreted not having one of his book for him to sign. Some idiots evaluate his books. Just enjoy them. The great writers works last. If you feel any emotion in a piece while reading his works, you will be hooked for life. Reilley's Luck and Sacket's Brand may bring a tear to your eye.

This book was my first western from Louis L'amour and it got me hooked! He is a master of pacing and will keep you turning page after page late into the night. It's easy to see why this is one of the most famous of the Sackett storylines. I read this and Sackett back-to-back and they're both excellent. If you're looking for a novel to test our L'amour's westerns, start here!

I know they are many writers in history that have the gift of prose! By far to me, Louis is the epitome of words not only of the west but the true western life as it was developing. He lived a life as an example of his stories able to put into words that ring of truth! I myself will read each and every story over and over again.

Ok, yes I feel that after I read most any of LL's books! All anyone would want in a novel. Plus, life's teachings and lessons with credibility as a true Western man can present.

Louis L'Amour is always a good read. I've read them all more than once.

I love the integrity of this western man, Jim Flint. These are always such easy, enjoyable reads; and, Mr. L’Amour did not disappoint with this story.

Very good Sackett book. Introduces the reader to some of the characters that will be seen often in later novels. Plenty of action.
Louis L'Amours is my favorite author. I especially reading the Sackett series. This is how men should be. This is my 3rd time reading this series.
