The Secrets of Rosa Lee (MIRA) by Jodi Thomas

Jodi Thomas writes "The Secrets of Rosa Lee". I loved reading this story, it is a mystery that hits you right from the start. One of the founding fathers of the town lived there till his death and he had a daughter Rosa Lee that also lived there as a recluse. There was lot of talk about this woman -no one had been in the house except a nurse many years ago to help. Rosa Lee never went out except to tend her rose Jodi Thomas writes "The Secrets of Rosa Lee"  . I have read quite a few books by her and really liked them. Therefore, I will continue to read her books.

Originally published in 2005. Everyone assumes that Rosa Lee Altman lived a life without passion. Her once-beautiful home now sits silent and empty, its gardens overgrown and its windows boarded up, surrounded by what passes for progress in Clifton Creek, Texas. And if some of the townsfolk have their way, this idyllic reminder of times past will be sold off to the highest bidder, despite its rich history

Everyone assumes Rosa Lee Altman lived a life without passion. But buried secrets are meant to be revealed . I heard this author just won the national book award for Finding Mary Blaine, and have no doubt this book will be a strong contender.

Better wash your hands and eat, son. Jimmy’s mom will be here soon. Micah poured the last of the milk in a small glass and set it beside the cereal. Logan never mixed food.

Jodi Thomas paints beautiful pictures with her words, creates characters that are so real you feel as though they’re standing next to you, and she had a deliciously wry sense of humo. horoughly recommend it. -The Book Smugglers. The Secrets of Rosa Lee Jodi Thomas. Dedicated to Connee McAnear, whose laughter will always live in my memories. Barns, bunkhouses, smoke sheds and kitchens must have sprung up like wild-flowers around a rose. A fitting house for Henry Altman, the town’s father. When the railroad arrived a mile away, it had been natural for business to move close to the tracks.

She could almost believe that Rosa Lee, who’d lived all ninety-two years of her life there, still watched over the place. Never forget the secrets of Rosa Lee, Sidney whispered and wondered what waited behind the solid double doors. Doors that had kept out the world for a lifetime. Across town in the Clifton Creek Hotel, Sloan McCormick dropped his leather duffel bag on the tiny hotel bed and growled. Like most of those chosen for the mayor’s committee, he couldn’t wait to go inside and have a look. And tomorrow, he’d get his chance. Reverend Milburn had talked him into another civic committee, this one to decide what to do with Rosa Lee Altman’s place. Even though a relative newcomer in town, Micah had heard the stories about the old maid who had lived to be ninety-two.

Jodi Thomas has written an excellent mystery with well developed characters. It is fun to read especially if you like old houses and the history behind them. Some of the characters are quirky others are just plane folks trying to get ahead in a small town. Behind the action there is romance which adds another layer to this mystery. Characters we usually would not link up romantically are places together in varying degrees of love and affection. Living close to the lower Mississippi River in earlier times I have gone through many of these old mansions. The stories they tell are fascinating. Wish I had been on the committee.

I've read every book Jodi has ever written (even taught with her in Amarillo ISD as she was just beginning). After reading each one, I don't think she could write a better one, but once again, she's proven me wrong!

I really enjoyed this one because there was mystery, intrigue, laughter, and love, not to mention she named places I'm familiar with. I couldn't put it down and spent today reading it.

Jodi, once again you've proven what a great talent you have for entertaining people.

Jodi Thomas is one of my favorite authors. This was an excellent book with all the right stuff. It referred back to another novel wherein 4 women's husbands were killed or injured in an oil well explosion. One man survived and was with his wife and the other widows for an annual memorial they do privately. Jodi always has mystery and all the other things that make a good story.

A house that holds secrets and a community of characters that seem more like the friends you've known all of your life. Jodi Thomas never disappoints.

In my opinion, Jodi Thomas can do NO wrong! Unlike some authors, Mrs. Thomas handles a host of main characters with ease. From the onset, I related to each of the main characters...from the spinster-like college professor, to the misundertsood bad-boy, to the down-on-her luck cheerleader. The characters, although unlikely accomplices, help to decided the fate of Rosa Lee's estate as they uncover the truth about themselves. Great read!

I read this a number of years ago, I liked it then and after reading it again, I still like it. The companion to this is the title, The Widows of Wichita County. It's one of my favorites. I always wished there were more stories in this set. However, I'm enjoying Jodi Thomas's new series.
Jodi Thomas is the absolute BEST at writing a story that grabs you and doesn't let you go ... right up to the last page!
