The book which scientifically demonstrates the actual occurrence of the miracle of Joshua's long day when the sun and the moon remained silent. Atheists agnostics and unbelievers are confounded by Professor Totten in his scientific demonstration of this astronomical event. Recognized as the authority concerning this outstanding miracle Joshua's Long Day is accordingly quoted by lectures and writers in proof thereof. Excerped from the FORWARD: In the year 1890 Profe.
JOSHUA'S LONG DAY Totten, Rimmer and Harold Hill hoaxed countless Christians but astronomer Edward Maunder plausibly explained Joshua's Long Day. (Investigator 141, 2011 November). distorted reference to Joshua's long day. The Chinese record, which is most remarkable, occurs in the Essays of the famous Chinese Taorist philosopher and alchemist, Huainan Tzu, thus:- "Duke Yang of Lu (. Maunder's book Astronomy of the Bible (1908) has a chapter titled "Joshua's Long Day", revised from Sunday at Home.
Similar considerations apply to the book Joshua’s Long Day, written in 1890 by Charles Totten, purporting to prove that a day went missing, without reproducing his calculations. All such calculations can show only where the sun and moon should have been at any time in the past (based on where they are now, assuming the rates of movements have not changed), not where they actually were. If the Earth was spinning as fast as this, we would all fly off into space anyway, regardless of whether the Earth stopped suddenly or not! What about the momentum of people and objects travelling at 1,600 km/h on the Earth? Answer: A car travelling at 100 km/h can be stopped comfortably for the occupants in a few seconds; something travelling at 1,600 km/h could stop comfortably for passengers in a few minutes.
Hence, there was a day missing. Of course, Totten’s computation required very precise dates, something that most people today would find ludicrous. However, Totten managed to obtain some audience in the late 19th century. While most people today are not impressed with such an approach, apparently invoking a computer, as in the Hill story, is sufficient to convince some people today. This story has been debunked many times, so it is a shame that it keeps being repeated
His book (one of many), JOSHUA'S LONG DAY AND THE DIAL OF AHAZ, was published in 1890. In this book, the skeptical astronomer convinced by a study of the Scriptures does not appear at all. Totten's argument, so far as I understand it, goes like this. We know from Daniel 9:27 and from various other passages (mostly in Revelation) that the public ministry of Jesus lasted three and a half years. Since he began to preach when He was thirty years old, He must have been born at the fall equinox. Since the world was created 4000 years before He was born, the world was created on September 22, 4000 BC. Therefore this day must have been a Sunday. But calculating back using a calendar, we find that this date was a Monday. Therefore there is a missing 24 hours.
Second, the 1890 book that Totten wrote (Joshua’s Long Day and the Dial of Ahaz) never was named by Rimmer, which seems a bit odd considering that Rimmer devoted an entire chapter to this subject in his own book. Third, no bibliographic references were provided by Rimmer to the works of either Ball or Totten-again, quite unusual, seeing as how Rimmer based his entire argument on the validity of their respective cases. Fourth, numerous other writers have made serious efforts to determine the validity of Rimmer’s claims, as well as those of Ball and Totten, but with no success.

Joshua’s long day. After leaving Egypt and wandering in the Sinai wilderness for forty years, Israel entered the land of Canaan late March to mid- April, 1448 . 1 The Israelite leader, Joshua, had a clear-cut task set before him: to completely eradicate all the previous inhabitants of the land. The story is quite familiar to every Sunday school student: how the Israelites marched around Jericho until the city fell, the subsequent defeat at Ai followed by the judgment of Achan, the fall of Ai, and the ruse of the Gibeonites who tricked the Israelites into an unholy alliance. Toward the end of the last century, Charles Adiel Lewis Totten, then a retired Professor of Military Science from Yale University, published a controversial study on Joshua’s long da. 3 The book dealt extensively with Joshua’s long day and Hezekiah’s sign.
Excerpt from Joshua Chapter 10 12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the pres. 13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!, Claim: If the earth’s rotation slowed down it would be a catastrophic event.
