Swann in Love (French: Un amour de Swann, German: Eine Liebe von Swann), is a 1984 Franco-German film directed by Volker Schlöndorff. Swann (Jeremy Irons), an eligible bachelor in the best circles of fin-de-siècle Paris, has also some more vulgar but rich friends, the Verdurins.

April 30, 2018 By Jessica Rushton. Calling all Francophiles, lovers of literature, and savvy challenge seekers. Proust delves into the world of Charles Swann in this part of Du côté de chez Swann, as he meets Odette de Crécy in the Verdurin’s Salon. The Salon is extremely exclusive, welcoming only the rich bourgeoisie that the Verdurins deem acceptable. Our story begins with Odette, who requests Madame Verdurin to meet the famously rich and successful art critic, Charles Swann. Odette herself, nonetheless, is far from upper class, rich and intelligent.

When I first decided to attempt reading Marcel Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past" in French a professor of literature who is also fluent in French advised me: "Why don't you just read the French Classic Comic, surely there is one." Well there is one, and so far six volumes of it have been published in this elegant hardbound format. The text, while abbreviated (that's OK because Proust is very wordy, the entire novel takes seven volumes in print) is close to the original French. The problem is how to graphically show the flashbacks since this novel is replete with flashbacks and flashbacks within flashbacks. The artist cleverly illustrates them in balloons over the heads person remembering the event or situation. Even if you read French with fluency and are a fan of Proust, you will like these elegant French 'Classic Comics.' I also bought the first episode of the novel in this format and sent it to my literature professor friend., She was stunned since she thought she was just making a facetious suggestion.
I cannot read the last line of every other page. It is blank. It is very frustrating to read the work of a great author without reading it all.
