Affairs at Thrush Green (Thrush Green, Book 7) by John S. Goodall,Miss Read

Product Description. In Affairs at Thrush Green, Miss Read continues the fortunes of the Thrush Green families whom we last met in Gossip from Thrush Green. Here we follow the kindly vicar, Charles Henstock, to the neighboring Lulling, after his home was burned to the ground at the end of the earlier novel. Going to a new church is never easy, even in the best of times; indeed, poor Dr. Henstock encounters some very redoubtable females in Lulling. Illustrated by John S. Thundery ConditionsTHE SUMMER weeks slipped by. The honeysuckle flowers had fallen and clusters of garnet berries took their place ld late summer flowers, knapweed, agrimony and scabious, enlivened the verges. Everything was beginning to look shabby. The grass was turning brown. A few leaves were already floating down from the trees. The combine harvesters were at work in the fields, and the lucky people with greenhouses were enjoying a bumper crop of tomatoes. In the vicarage garden at Lulling Charles Henstock.

The villagers of Thrush Green celebrate Christmas traditionally, in a way that has hardly changed over the generations. Children eagerly hang up their stockings, families go to church together, everyone enjoys treats of the festive season. And when it snows as the carol singers make their way round the cottages on the green, it seems as if Christmas will be perfect this year. But not everything is as peaceful as it seems. Phyllida and Frank have their work cut out for them when they agree to take on the Nativity play - made all the more difficult by an outbreak of chicken pox. The indomitable. It's Trush Green, what is there to say? Just a soothing read. I have read these books over and over, and always the stories are fresh to me and so good. I guess, it's the kind of country village in the dreams of those who like the quiet life.
Zacki
Always pleasant reading, with above-waist only characters awash with cups of tea. While it makes village life seem idyllic, the reality was not quite so rosy. But so far this is kept hidden behind the honeysuckle and hedgerows.
