Smart, warm, telling, and funny, Funny, Your Don't Look Like a Grandmother is the perfect bouquet for today's grandmother, that active and interesting woman who is old enough to be somebody's grandmother and young enough to run around the world. Lois Wyse's new book, charmingly illustrated by Lilla Rogers, is a collection of wit and wisdom for today's Nana, Grandma, Goo-Goo, or Gran. How can you recognize today's grandmother? Easy, says Wyse. The grandmother is the one who goes out more and complains less than her daughter

Ms Wyse has certainly captured the modern style of being a grandmother and made her come to life. I have given it to each of my friends as they announce they are going to be a grandmother. I also reread it from time to time just to see how I am doing as a grandmother and what might come next. I bought this book as a gift for my Mother-in-law & she loves it! I have often told her she doesnt look like a Grandmother & thought this would be a cute book. I flipped through it & found so many funny & inspiring stories that i had to read it as well. And i am not a Grandmother! This book is for anyone who will enjoy touching stories that you'll remember & if you would like a laugh.

When I purchased this book, I was expecting a funny, lighthearted book that I could give my mother. I read this before I gave it to her, and I'm glad I did because I decided not to give it to her. To me, it seemed like it was written for the grandmother who doesn't really want to be one. It felt like the author was trying to make it sound funny to not want to be a grandma. It was almost offensive to the grandmother, implying she is superficial, and too busy to be bothered with grandchildren. Personally, my mother does not follow the "grandma" image, by not being a very good cook, can't sew or knit, but she loves being a grandma more than anything. The cover picture of the microwave apple pie was funny, and made me think the book would be similar to that. This would be a great book for a young grandma, maybe one who wasn't exactly expecting it, and doesn't really have mothering instincts. Which is ok, that's not a judgement, it just wasn't the book I was expecting to give to my mother
This book should be handed out to every woman upon learning she is to be a grandmother! So many questions were answered and could have saved me so many difficult moments and lots of money spent on things our children would never use for their new prodigy. It was told in a humorous fashion that was heartwarming and after living so many of the situations for the past 2 1/2 years I could totatlly relate. I will tell all my friends about it and probably make it a gift for any of them becoming new grandmas. If there is a new baby in your child's future BUY THIS BOOK! and sit back for a fun read. Buy this book for your Mom when you tell her you are pregnant, it should make your life easier unless she's just a control freak.
I ordered this as a present in a "New Grandparent's Care Package" but decided to sit & read it during those late-night feedings before we got it delivered to them... I honestly didn't make it to the end. I think I got about 50 pages in -- it just wasn't remotely amusing, and seemed pointless, trivial & wandered aimlessly; in fact, it's in a box headed for Goodwill. I never gave it after all. Very disappointing!
I expected this book to be written in general terms about grandmotherhood, but it turned out to be a series of stories of different experiences of grandmothering. Fun to read and entertaining, it was quick and easy to get through. (Which is good, because I gifted it to a grandmother-to-be!)
The only thing that I didn't like was the font used on the cover: my image of grandmothers is a little more sweet and formal than that!
Gave to my sister for her first grandchild and she loved it!
Deodorant for your language
I bought this to surprise my mother in law with our good news. It had a lot of nice stories in it and she seemed to enjoy it.
Brought as a gift for a first time grandmom. I thought this would be perfect. She loved it!
Really cute book
