Sigillography has provided Byzantine studies with large amounts of new material for analysis. The articles in Studies in Byzantine Sigillography deal with all aspects of Byzantine sigillography: presentation of new finds, discussion of new methods, questions of the political and ecclesiastical administration of Byzantium, prosopography, historical geography, and art-historical and iconographical problems. Type of Publication: Collection.
Studies in Byzantine Sigillography, generally abbreviated to SBS, was founded by the late Nicolas Oikonomides as an occasional medium for the publication of papers relating to a late-blooming field, the study of Byzantine lead seals. This introduces problems which will be addressed below, although rarely is comprehension affected.
