Kashmir handmade shawls’ are textiles handcrafted by artisans with fine wool and sometimes silk threads and they are usually pieced together as patch work. They belong to the Indo-Persian style. Their original use was to mark every rite of passage in the Indian society; these shawls were status symbols in the Persian/Indian culture. The technique used by artisans was weave the silk and/or wool threads and in many other textiles, their technique included needle embroidery .
