First planned as a motorized division, the unit ended up as a normal infantry division because of a lack of fuel. This book I had put aside for a long time as the author Rolf Michaelis is regarded as a dubious source in the mainstream. He is regarded as an apologist and of questionable right wing views. most importantly there is not a hint of right wing bias in manner of presentation).

This has to be the worst case of padding a book out, there are only 65 pages of text, with the text only filling out at the most half of the page, and many pages at 20% or less.

The text itself is provides little information on the division, half the book is given to photos of documents, with no translation, that the author writes that the documents speak for themselves, yes, that you just padded the book out.

The book itself is nicely bound and printed.

I have to agree with the other review, this book is padded out. I was initally perplexed as to why the pages were only printed to half way done the page then it hit me that with full page printing the book would have probably been only 30 pages or so. Shame on SCHIFFER for engaging in this type of rubbish.

As to the contents of the book it provides some brief history of the actions of the division interspersed with some first hand accounts. Some of the photos are rather poor and help very little. An average effort.Valhalla's Warriors: A History of the Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front 1941-1945
X-MEN
I have to disagree with all the one star reviews here that it is terrible, etc., etc. because this division is one of the very late war thrown together divisions of which there is precious little information available. If one is interested in these obscure late war divisions then this is actually a must have book.

Tipycal rehash for this author. Information is really insufficient to write a book, or even a fasimile. Books by Rolf Michaelis are always amateurish and padded. He writes several books a year i think, and has done no or little research for each one.
