I was delighted to discover that the copy (used) I received - although a bit worn on the dust cover jacket - was actually an autographed copy by the author, Dr. Sheldon A. Jacobson. The book did take a bit longer to arrive than I had expected - but the discovery of the autograph more than made up for the lapse in time. The book is a very good read so far!

I just finished Fleet Surgeon to Pharaoh and wish the author were still alive so I could write him. He was a pathologist and a professor, as well as a student of the history of medicine and philosophy. I learned more about the ancient mariners' lives at sea than I imagined. The characters are fictional but well-rounded. The circumnavigation of Africa in 600 BCE by the Phoenicians is factual. I have a day's worth of looking up nautical terms waiting since I don't want to lay this adventure to rest while there is more to learn. Author, Sheldon A. Jacobson, M.D. wrote how such a feat would have been accomplished. You can almost feel the sea-spray and the rolling ocean. I look forward to his second novel.
