Does not include all the recipients of the CMH during the Civil War but more than makes up for that with the rather complete description of each heroic event that is covered. It fills in a lot of the gaps left by other book. A valuable addition to my Civil War library.

The book offers a brief synopsis of each instance involving the award of the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. An excellent read for anyone who enjoys Civil War history. Highly recommend.

Written in Victorian style, so the language is interesting. This edition is a reprint of the original 1912 book, so it's much closer to the time of the history it describes; some of the men were still alive at the time it was written. Fascinating, fast read, a keeper. Strictly the Union side. The Confederacy did not make personal awards during the war; some were done after it was over. So the Union bias of the battle descriptions is evident.
