Grisdale, Last of the Logging Camps: A Photo Story of Simpson Camps from 1890 into 1986 by Dave James

Grisdale features photographs and maps from Simpson Camp Country, which was located in Mason County. The focus of the book is primarily on the Grisdale camp which survived for 40 years, longer than any other known camp. This book provides an abundance of photography which allows for a very clear understanding of what the camps probably were like to live in, focusing on the families and leisure time of the loggers as well. Photos are supported by text and extensive citations. Churchhill, Sam. Big Sam: The true story of a timber man and his family in the heyday of northwest logging.

Grisdale, Last of the Logging Camps.

Fascinating pictorial history of Grisdale, the last big forest community to be known as a "camp." Opened by the Simpson Logging Co. in 1946 to support operations in the South Olympic Mountains, it survived in one location--40 years--longer than any other camp. This book provides a penetrating look at the men and the machines that made the camp and the logging operations thrive. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. With index.
